Heading upstream from first flats - looking back down valley. The flat top hill in the background is known as Shingle Hill (well named!) and the main South Temple valley is in front of it.

Large slips have come down on both sides of the valley creating a wall of rock / scree right across the valley. The stream must be quite deep below this (no sight or sound of it on this side).

The North Otago Tramping and Mountaineering have marked and maintained a route from South Temple Hut to the right hand unnamed tributary (not the one this trip went to) - the route climbs the ridge in this photo and drops through bush to a clearing. This valley connects to Watson Stream allowing round trips to the Maitland or Ahuriri Valleys.
